Introduction

The beginning of the end.

“Hey I think I can start up this junk!”

A gruff sounding man yelled across the warehouse filled with junk. A head popped out of a pile of junk and shouted back, “I’m coming over, don’t do anything yet!”

A small built person clambered across heaps of junk before reaching the gruff sounding man. The man pulled on a crank to get the machinery started. The sound of a car starting could be heard, “Stand back Eliza.” The man addressed the smaller built person. The machine gave a choking noise before letting out black smoke.

“Shit, this is not going to work.” The man grumbled as he kicked the machine making it give out another choking sound. “What a lousy crap ass of a thing.” He said as he grumbled more.

“Well, it’s a lawnmower so it doesn’t really matter. There ain’t any grass to cut here either. It’s just junk, junk, debris and more junk around these parts.” Eliza said as she pulled off her cap revealing a fairly pretty face.

“You know Eliza, you should doll up sometimes. You really are a pretty girl you know?”

“Stop the flattering gramps. Why should I even doll up here? These parts here are so rural. I’ll just get dirtied with all these grease and grime again anyway.”

“That’s why I keep telling you to go to the capital, everyone’s leading a much better life there than here.” Eliza just shook her head as the two of them stepped out of the warehouse.

They climbed onto a pile of large steel pipes and prepared their lunch. “Funny don’t you think? There isn’t any time at all on earth now and we still know when we should have our lunch.” Gramps said as he chuckled pulling out cans of food.

“I guess it’s just a way of life?” Eliza smiled. “What we should thank for, is our technology. Thanks to that our canned food just can’t expire.”

“That is something to be thankful about.” Gramps chuckled once more.
